Debt collection laws and official resources
Wyoming
Wyoming's Collection Agency Board publishes licensing, operation, and conduct rules under statutes 33-11-101 through 33-11-116. Its complaint process provides a route for concerns involving regulated collection agencies. Federal consumer-debt protections are separate; identify whether the business is acting as a collection agency before choosing a complaint route.

Federal context
The federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act limits the conduct of covered debt collectors collecting consumer debts. It generally does not cover an original creditor collecting its own debt or business debts. State protections may be broader. CFPB: which laws apply (opens in a new tab)
Lawsuit response information
Wyoming
Legal Aid of Wyoming's collection guide explains answering the numbered allegations in a complaint, filing the response with the court, and sending a copy to the opposing party. Small claims uses its own summons and hearing rules. Follow the served documents and applicable court rules rather than applying one deadline to all cases.

Federal context
Check the summons, court rules, and any hearing date promptly. Missing the applicable response deadline can lead to a default judgment. A complaint to a consumer agency or a letter to the collector is not a court response. CFPB: if you are sued (opens in a new tab)
Wage garnishment rules and exemptions
Wyoming
Wyoming's official self-help page distinguishes continuing from non-continuing garnishment and supplies instructions and a Notice of Right to Hearing and Objection form for non-continuing cases. Read the packet that matches your order and identify protected earnings or property promptly; tax and support collections may have different procedures.

Federal context
For ordinary consumer debts, federal law generally limits weekly withholding to the lesser of 25% of disposable earnings or the amount above 30 times the federal minimum hourly wage. A more protective state rule controls where applicable. Support, taxes, and federal student loans have different rules. Read the federal guide
Debt validation information
Wyoming
For covered consumer debts, federal law gives you 30 days after validation information to dispute in writing. A timely written dispute pauses collection until verification is sent. This is not a court-answer extension.

Federal context
A covered debt collector generally must provide validation information, including the end date of the 30-day dispute period. A timely written dispute triggers verification protections. This collection-notice period is separate from any court response deadline. CFPB: validation information (opens in a new tab)

Consumer protection agencies
Wyoming
Collection agency licensing or conduct concerns may be directed to the Wyoming Collection Agency Board. The Attorney General's Consumer Protection and Antitrust Unit also accepts business complaints for enforcement review. Neither complaint route automatically cancels a debt, represents you in litigation, or stops the court's deadlines.
